Serie A All Time Top Scorers Ranked
The Serie A top scorers of all time are ranked here by goals in the Italian league, not by all-competition career totals. Equal goal totals share a rank, and the next rank skips the occupied places. Because the players competed across different eras, raw goals are a historical record rather than a complete measure of attacking ability.
Source note: Names, ranks, goal totals and appearances are transcribed from the RSSSF historical Serie A scoring index (last updated June 5, 2026). The table is a fixed snapshot, not a live leaderboard. Profile descriptions are editorial summaries, and each profile links to the player’s own RSSSF record.
CAREER RANK 1
Silvio Piola
274 SERIE A GOALS
Piola set the standard through remarkable longevity, scoring before and after World War II. The RSSSF index credits him with 274 league goals, a 24-goal lead over Totti in this historical table. RSSSF’s player record shows 143 of those goals came for Lazio, with the rest scored for Pro Vercelli, Juventus and Novara across very different periods of Italian football.
RSSSF record: 274 goals in 537 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 2
Francesco Totti
250 SERIE A GOALS
Totti produced all 250 goals in Roma colors over 619 Serie A appearances. His tally is especially striking because he operated not only as a conventional striker but also as a creator and deep-lying forward. His career shows how playmaking responsibilities can coexist with sustained elite scoring.
RSSSF record: 250 goals in 619 Serie A appearances.
AS Roma Hall of Fame: Totti career statistics (250 goals, 619 Serie A matches) · RSSSF player record: Francesco Totti
CAREER RANK 3
Gunnar Nordahl
225 SERIE A GOALS
The RSSSF index records 225 league goals for the Swedish forward. His extraordinary finishing at AC Milan, followed by a spell at Roma, makes his total especially striking when viewed alongside his relatively short Italian top-flight career. Goal totals alone cannot fully account for differences in season length or era.
RSSSF record: 225 goals in 291 Serie A appearances.
JOINT RANK 4
Giuseppe Meazza
216 SERIE A GOALS
Meazza scored 216 goals in the defined Serie A era, most notably for Inter, with later appearances for AC Milan and Juventus. His legacy predates modern tactical and training conditions, making his position alongside Altafini a bridge between different generations of Italian football.
RSSSF record: 216 goals in 367 Serie A appearances.
JOINT RANK 4
José Altafini
216 SERIE A GOALS
Altafini shares fourth place with Meazza on 216 goals. He made his mark at AC Milan, Napoli and Juventus, showing an ability to adapt to different teams and stages of his career. His longevity across the 1960s and 1970s is an essential part of the record.
RSSSF record: 216 goals in 459 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 6
Antonio Di Natale
209 SERIE A GOALS
The RSSSF historical index credits Di Natale with 209 goals. His Serie A career included Empoli and Udinese, where his consistent movement and finishing became hallmarks of his game. That production made him a fixture of the historical record despite spending much of his peak outside the usual title contenders.
RSSSF record: 209 goals in 445 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 7
Roberto Baggio
205 SERIE A GOALS
Baggio’s 205 goals were distributed across six Serie A clubs. A technically gifted forward and creator, he was as capable of constructing an attack as finishing one. That dual role makes his place above many specialist strikers especially revealing.
RSSSF record: 205 goals in 452 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 8
Ciro Immobile
201 SERIE A GOALS
Immobile occupies eighth place in this RSSSF historical snapshot with 201 goals. RSSSF’s player record shows 169 of those goals came for Lazio, after earlier Serie A spells at Genoa and Torino. This is a league total from the RSSSF snapshot, not an all-competition count.
RSSSF record: 201 goals in 359 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 9
Kurt Hamrin
190 SERIE A GOALS
Hamrin registered 190 Serie A goals after arriving from Sweden. He is most strongly associated with Fiorentina but also represented Juventus, Padova, AC Milan and Napoli. His combination of wing play and finishing shows that this leaderboard is not limited to traditional center forwards.
RSSSF record: 190 goals in 400 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 10
Giuseppe Signori
188 SERIE A GOALS
Signori finished on 188 league goals, level with Del Piero and Gilardino. His left-footed finishing and set-piece threat made him one of the defining Italian attackers of the 1990s. The tally spans Foggia, Lazio, Sampdoria and Bologna.
RSSSF record: 188 goals in 344 Serie A appearances.
JOINT RANK 10
Alessandro Del Piero
188 SERIE A GOALS
Del Piero’s 188 Serie A goals all came for Juventus. His trademark curling finishes were only one part of a game built on creativity and movement. His overall Juventus career also included a season in Serie B, whose goals are excluded from this league-specific ranking.
RSSSF record: 188 goals in 478 Serie A appearances.
JOINT RANK 10
Alberto Gilardino
188 SERIE A GOALS
Gilardino shares tenth place on 188 goals in the RSSSF historical index. His long career included productive periods with Parma, AC Milan and Fiorentina, and his ability to find space in the penalty area remained a defining quality.
RSSSF record: 188 goals in 514 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 13
Gabriel Batistuta
184 SERIE A GOALS
In the RSSSF index used for this ranking, Batistuta is listed with 184 Serie A goals. His powerful finishing defined a long Fiorentina spell before he helped Roma win the 2000–01 Serie A title; his Serie A goals also include a brief later spell at Inter.
RSSSF record: 184 goals in 318 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 14
Fabio Quagliarella
182 SERIE A GOALS
Quagliarella stands fourteenth with 182 goals in the selected RSSSF historical table. His career included notable periods at Sampdoria, Napoli, Juventus and Torino. His place in the ranking reflects long-term scoring production, not simply a collection of memorable long-range finishes.
RSSSF record: 182 goals in 556 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 15
Giampiero Boniperti
178 SERIE A GOALS
Boniperti’s 178 Serie A goals all came for Juventus. His career covered the postwar development of the club and helped establish the attacking standards later generations inherited. His one-club record is a different form of achievement from those of players who moved repeatedly.
RSSSF record: 178 goals in 443 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 16
Amedeo Amadei
174 SERIE A GOALS
Amadei accumulated 174 goals while representing Roma, Inter and Napoli. His career straddled wartime disruption and the resumption of national league competition. Those interruptions are one reason historical ranking methods must state which seasons count.
RSSSF record: 174 goals in 423 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 17
Giuseppe Savoldi
168 SERIE A GOALS
Savoldi scored 168 league goals for Atalanta, Bologna and Napoli. A powerful penalty-area striker, he established his reputation through repeatable finishing rather than a single breakout season. His place illustrates the depth of Italian attacking talent beyond the most globally famous names.
RSSSF record: 168 goals in 405 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 18
Guglielmo Gabetto
165 SERIE A GOALS
The RSSSF all-time table credits Gabetto with 165 Serie A goals. His Juventus and Torino spells connect him with two major Italian clubs, including the celebrated Grande Torino era.
RSSSF record: 165 goals in 322 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 19
Roberto Boninsegna
163 SERIE A GOALS
Boninsegna has 163 goals in the selected RSSSF dataset. The forceful center forward scored for Varese and Cagliari before becoming closely associated with Inter, and he later played for Juventus. His position illustrates how prolific careers can span several clubs and tactical environments, rather than a single defining season.
RSSSF record: 163 goals in 366 Serie A appearances.
CAREER RANK 20
Luca Toni
157 SERIE A GOALS
Toni’s 157 goals place him twentieth in this fixed historical top-20 selection. His peak years at Fiorentina and later Verona demonstrate how a striker can reach new heights well into his career. The figure is for Serie A alone and excludes his substantial scoring in other competitions.
RSSSF record: 157 goals in 344 Serie A appearances.

What Makes the Serie A Record Book Special?
Piola’s 274 is the overall benchmark, while Totti’s 250 is a remarkable one-club record. Nordahl’s 225 remains the highest total by a Swedish player and one of the great foreign-born scoring records. The joint positions also matter: Meazza and Altafini share fourth, while Signori, Del Piero and Gilardino are level on 188.
These figures cover long careers in different tactical environments, league formats and historical conditions. A league tally is useful for comparison, but it cannot capture minutes played, chances created, defensive pressure or the quality of opposition by itself.
Could Current Players Challenge the Historic Top 20?
In the RSSSF snapshot through 2025–26, Luca Toni holds twentieth place with 157 goals. The same index lists Lautaro Martínez on 132, Paulo Dybala on 131 and Domenico Berardi on 130, so even the highest of them is 25 goals short of Toni. These are snapshot figures, not live 2026–27 totals.
A long run of seasons, rather than a single prolific campaign, is usually required to approach Piola’s total. Moving abroad, injuries or changes in role can all interrupt that pursuit.
Why Piola’s 274 Still Stands
Piola’s lead is a story about sustained production rather than one spectacular season. He finished 24 goals ahead of Totti, who spent his entire Serie A career with Roma. Nordahl’s 225 came through a different model: efficiency. His 225 goals in 291 matches average about 0.77 per match, the highest rate in the top 20 on RSSSF’s counts.
The ranking also challenges the idea that there is only one kind of elite striker. Totti and Baggio could create as well as finish; Batistuta was an imposing penalty-area force; Di Natale flourished through movement and timing; and Quagliarella sustained his output across many clubs and seasons. A single leaderboard contains several distinct footballing careers.
The most telling statistic is the distance between the summit and the rest. Reaching 200 goals puts a player in rare company, yet Piola’s record still demands another 74. That gap is why the record remains so formidable.
How We Checked the RSSSF Serie A Scorers Ranking
The ranking follows the RSSSF all-time Serie A scorers index, compiled by Maurizio Mariani and Roberto Di Maggio and updated June 5, 2026. It covers Serie A league goals through 2025–26, excludes the 1945–46 season under RSSSF’s stated rules, and does not count Serie B, cup, European or international goals. It is a source-defined historical list, not an independently reconstructed or Lega Serie A-certified universal record. Equal totals share the same rank, with subsequent positions skipped.
Verification: All 20 goal and match totals were rechecked against the live RSSSF table on October 11, 2026. The article follows that index consistently and does not combine figures from different databases.
Official club corroboration and research context: AS Roma’s official Hall of Fame record independently confirms Totti’s 250 Serie A goals in 619 appearances: Francesco Totti, AS Roma Hall of Fame. The club’s 2017 league-record report also identifies him as second on 250 league goals. These official articles corroborate Totti specifically, not the entire 20-player RSSSF index.

Serie A All Time Scorers FAQ
Does this list count Serie B goals or the 1945–46 season?
No. Only Serie A league goals count, so Serie B, cup, European and national-team goals are excluded. RSSSF also leaves out 1945–46, an after-war championship in which Serie A and Serie B clubs played together.
How are tied scorers ranked?
Players with identical goal totals share a rank, and the next rank skips the occupied places. That is why two fourth-place players are followed by sixth place.
Who is the highest-ranked foreign-born scorer?
Sweden’s Gunnar Nordahl, with 225 goals in 291 matches, is third overall and the highest-ranked player born outside Italy. Brazil-born José Altafini follows on 216.
Who has the best goals-per-match rate in the top 20?
Nordahl, at about 0.77 goals per match. Meazza (about 0.59), Batistuta (0.58) and Immobile (0.56) follow. These rates use RSSSF match counts and ignore minutes played.
Which players are closest to breaking into the top 20?
Four players sit one goal behind Luca Toni’s 157 on 156: Zlatan Ibrahimović, Luigi Riva, Filippo Inzaghi and Roberto Mancini. Among more recent names, Lautaro Martínez is highest on 132 in the RSSSF snapshot.
Why might another website show different totals?
Historical lists can use different season boundaries, source revisions or competition definitions, so a gap is not automatically an error. Check each publisher’s method before changing a player’s entry.
The TMJ Verdict
This record book measures more than finishing power. It records the rare combination of seasons, opportunity and consistency needed to accumulate elite league totals. Piola remains the benchmark, while the different careers beneath him show why a single goal tally is a starting point for football history, not its final judgment.
