Verify important facts

Names, dates, scores, competition results, records, statistics, transfers, quotations, and historical claims should be checked against reliable sources before publication whenever reasonably possible.

Use appropriate sources

We prefer primary and authoritative sources where available, including governing bodies, competitions, clubs, federations, official records, direct statements, recognised statistical databases, and established reporting.

Cross-check when necessary

For significant claims, historical records, disputed statistics, or information that varies between sources, we may compare multiple reliable references rather than relying on a single source.

Separate fact from analysis

Tactical analysis, rankings, player assessments, predictions, and editorial verdicts may involve judgment. We aim to make clear when a conclusion is analysis rather than an established fact and to support those conclusions with relevant evidence.

When we get something wrong.

If a material factual error is identified, we aim to review it promptly and correct the published content when appropriate. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting, or presentation changes may be made without a formal correction notice when they do not alter the meaning of the story.

Where a correction substantially changes or clarifies an important factual claim, we may add an editorial note so readers can understand what was changed.

Corrections are different from updates.

Not every change means the original article was wrong. We may update stories with new results, statistics, transfers, records, tournament developments, or other information that became available after publication. Significant updates may be identified where useful to readers.
